The 2000 Summer Olympics were a game-changer for swimming, thanks to the revolutionary Fastskin suits. World records were broken left and right by swimmers wearing these wrist-to-ankle, full-body suits. Do you remember?
For me, it was a life-altering moment. Watching legends like Jenny Thompson, Dana Kirk, Brooke Bennett, Inge de Bruijn, Lenny Krayzelburg, and Ian Thorpe win metals and break records inspired me to become a “real” swimmer. It might sound a little Lifetime movie, but it truly changed my life. After that summer, dedicated my teenage years to swimming, which eventually got me into college.
I didn’t become an Olympian, but the Olympics remain special to me. It’s one of the rare times swimming is on TV, and it never fails to inspire. Last month, I went to the Olympic trials in Indianapolis, the most attended swimming event ever, with over 20,000 fans in the stadium. I was so proud of every single athlete there, and honored to witness such incredible talent.
If you love the Olympics like me, or you just enjoy some excitement during the doldrums of late summer, you’re in for a treat with a ton of amazing Olympic artifacts below.

There are two Olympic stickers from 1988 and 1992 in my garage on my electric panel. I’m obsessed with them and I’m thinking about buying a sticker for 2024 to add to it!
I LOVE the Olympics! I run a small shop that’s pretty quiet during the week, I brought in a big monitor to have Olympics streaming during the day 🤗
